Everything you need to know to keep your pet safe from Coronavirus.

As any pet owner will know, the anxiety that comes along with a pandemic like Coronavirus also extends to our animals. So, is there a risk? Is there anything we can do to ensure our best friends are protected? Let us give you the low-down.

Can my pet contract Coronavirus?

We’ll be straight with you. There’s been one reported case of human-to-animal transmission from a dog in Hong Kong. But, this was back in February, the dog is in quarantine and isn’t showing any clinical signs of disease.

Wash, wash, wash your hands

Hand hygiene is everything. Wash your hands before and after handling your pets, as well as their food. If you’re infected or think you might be, you can still keep your pets with you, but just do your best to limit your contact.

Be prepared, just in case

At times like this, there’s nothing wrong with being prepared. Do your best to source essential supplies to have on hand in the event of an emergency. Your emergency kit should include a 30-day supply of your pets’ medications, as well as at least two weeks worth of food.

Nominate a generous caregiver

Have a think about who could take care of your pets if you can’t. Create a list of instructions for feeding and care, so if anyone needs to take over, they have everything they need. Make sure you include behaviours, veterinarian contact information and food preferences.
